Quick Trip: Weekend in Portland Maine – Summary

Highlights

  • Fantastic breakfast buffet for 4 in the restaurant
  • Indoor pool!
  • Tasty cookies and sweets by the elevators in the evening

Lowlights

  • Rooms were a little small side with double beds instead of queens

Wins

While we were informed at checkin that the concierge lounge was closed for the weekend, the hotel gave us vouchers for the four of us for the breakfast buffet in the lounge. Normally we only get a voucher for two people, but this property gave us vouchers that included the kids as well which was very much appreciated.

On top of that the breakfast buffet was fantastic with fresh fruit, an omelet station, several bread and pastry options, a waffle station and many other options. It was a great way to start off the days!

Takeaway

The hotel location was excellent for our trip. It was centrally located for our purposes and served as the home base for the weekend. The pool was a hit and the fitness center allowed us to work up a sweat and get some energy out. Getting breakfast for all four of us in the restaurant was an unexpected and welcome bonus after learning the lounge closes on the weekends.

I can’t stress how happy we were with the breakfast, either. Tomatico (our oldest and this blog’s namesake) takes his breakfast seriously. He rated this breakfast third all time which is quite a compliment. First place on his list was at a Holiday Inn Express in Paris (yes, really, it was amazing). Second place was at the Marriott Park Lane in London (a five star hotel). Future posts will talk about those trips, but the breakfast at this hotel was definitely a hit!

The hotel also has a golf course which I have played several times before. While the course has stolen (eaten?) several of my golf balls, I can still highly recommend it if you’re in the area looking for a place to play golf. It’s well maintained and quite challenging.

Although we didn’t use it, a complementary airport shuttle is available if you’re flying into Portland International Jetport. The airport is only a couple miles away so it’s likely only a 5 minute ride. It’s a small airport that’s easy to get in and out of.

The hotel is located on a hill overlooking the mall and is close to lots of dining options. It’s a short ride to downtown Portland and all the food and shopping and nightlife options of the Old Port.

We had a very pleasant trip to this hotel and it will surely be on the top of the list for future stays in the Portland area.
