The trip was finally here. It was a Friday night and everyone was gathering at my house for final preparation to catch our 6am flight the next morning.
We checked to make sure we had enough golf balls, tees, our toothbrushes and everything we had put on our individual checklists for months. We packed our clubs into our travel bags and loaded everything into my uncle’s pickup which we would be taking to the airport in a few short hours.
This trip is what we called the “200 Year Trip”. We were all coming up on, or had just reached milestone birthdays. 70 years old, 60 years old, 40 years and 30 which, if you add them up is 200. To commemorate the trip I had golf towels made up with our initials. The towels ended up being quite a hit. They also helped us put the stress of work behind us and get us in the proper mindset for the trip.
This is what we marked at the beginning of our trip, or at least the end of the craziness leading up to the trip. I find it important to make a conscious break between the craziness of work and the trip or else you never really start your vacation. While I’ve had to do work on plenty of vacations, starting the vacation is critical. Even just taking a deep breath and allowing yourself to consider yourself on vacation is a huge mental relief and in many ways the towels were that break for us on this vacation. The vacation was really happening and it was starting now!
After the towels, it was an early night as there was a 3:30am wake up call to get our butts to the airport!
