We got up at 5:30 in order to be ready when the hotel breakfast started at 6:00am. We wanted to make sure we avoided as much of the Monday morning traffic on our way to Half Moon Bay.
Breakfast was the same continental spread as the day before and served our purposes nicely. After breakfast we finished packing up and then checked out of the hotel. We had a great stay. The connecting rooms were very useful and the location served our purposes nicely.
Half Moon Bay Ocean Course
The drive to Half Moon Bay had much less traffic than expected for a Monday morning. We were traveling the opposite way of most commuters which probably played a part. We arrived more than an hour before our tee time so we were able to get in a good warmup.
Like the previous day at the Presidio the course was encased in a thick fog. The fog was less thick than the previous day, though it never fully lifted during our round. The fog, cooler temperatures and slight drizzle scared off some of the others ahead of us so we were able to get on the course early. We field we had the course mostly to ourselves.
The course is a links style course with few trees, wide open fairways and nasty bunkers to avoid. It was quite different than the tree lined and relatively narrow fairways we played the previous day.
Towards the end of the round, the holes brought us closer to the ocean. Despite the fog there were still some spectacular views.

We all really enjoyed this course despite the weather. We are all from Maine, so playing golf in November was quite a treat and the weather, while cold for locals, was quite tolerable for us.
Onward to Monterey
After golf, we started driving south towards Monterey on the Pacific Coast Highway. We stopped for a quick bite to eat in Santa Clara and continued south to Monterey to checkin to the Clarion Monterey. The drive took a few hours but the views were nonstop and nobody minded. The minivan was extremely comfortable with it’s leather captain chairs all around and the smooth ride.
We checked into the Clarion and found the rooms upgraded to ones with two beds as we expected. Each room had two bedrooms with a door separating them which was nice. We did not have connecting rooms, but they were next to each other.
After unloading our stuff we headed to the Cannery Row area in Monterey for dinner. Cannery Row is the hip retail and restaurant area of Monterey and there’s a lot to see and do there. The Monterey Aquarium is located nearby as well, though we were just looking for at place to eat. We found a sports bar and watched a football game while we ate.
Back at the hotel we called it another early night at the end of a long day. Next up was the mid-point of our trip (already!!) and our last round of golf before Pebble Beach.
