Throwback Trip: Pebble Beach 2014 Diary – Day 4

Bayonet Golf Course

We all slept well in the new hotel. We had a mid morning tee time so we only had to be up in time for the breakfast that was included with the hotel. Being east-coast based early risers we didn’t sleep in much and were at the breakfast room when it opened.

The breakfast was… not great. In fact it was quite disappointing. The breakfast options were extremely limited with no warm options. There was only two types of cereal, some questionable looking fruit and very few options of yogurt. There were no pastries or bread options, either. The milk quickly ran out and clean utensils were in short supply.

We found enough to get by for breakfast but it was not satisfying by any measure.

Bayonet Golf Course

We loaded into the minivan for the short drive to Fort Ord where our next course was located. We checked into the course and were able to tee off on schedule.

The course consists of two courses, Blackhorse and Bayonet. Bayonet is the one we were told was more challenging, though I believe both are pretty similar in difficulty and style. The course style was not particularly narrow but was far from the wide open links style course we had played the day before. The fairways were tree lined and it was smart to avoid the strategically placed bunkers. The greens were lightning quick the day we played.

There were a few areas under construction but overall the course was in excellent condition. The weather finally cooperated for us as well as there was no fog in sight the whole day!

The views from the course could not compare to those of the previous days. The courses are on top of a hill a few miles from the coast. You could see the ocean from a distance, but views are not primary feature of these courses.

The Rest of the Day

After golf we drove to the nearby town of Seaside and had a filling lunch as Chili’s before heading back to the hotel to relax. My cousin and I tried out the indoor pool and hot tub at the hotel and later watched some TV and relaxed.

In the evening we drove into town and got a quick bite of pizza before walking around. It was then back to the hotel for an early end to the day.

The trip was amazingly already halfway over. Our round at Pebble Beach was up next and we were determined to get there early and enjoy the full experience.
