Christmas 2018 Planning – Post Cruise Hotel Planning

After returning from the cruise, we wanted to spend a few days in NYC catching up with family. We also needed 3 more nights with Marriott to reach our goal of 50 and 2 more nights in NYC would leave us with just one more night to find before the clock turned to 2019.

We considered trying to stay in Manhattan until we looked at the prices. We couldn’t find anything less than $500 a night and which was significantly more than we were willing to spend. We are still collecting points for our trips in 2019 so we weren’t looking to redeem any for this trip.

We looked at hotels nearer to LaGuardia and found that the LaGuardia Airport Marriott we had stayed in this past summer and fall was the best option. While not the absolute cheapest, it was one of the cheaper options. With a lounge and the possibility of leveraging our elite benefits it was a solid choice.

Cyber Monday: Part 2

As with the pre-cruise hotel, I had originally booked a refundable AAA rate. Since I needed a room with two beds, the rate wasn’t as favorable as I had originally expected. The listed rate in the search engine was for a king bed room which wouldn’t work for the four of us. The rooms with two double beds were about $50 more a night but the overall price was still better than the alternatives.

When I found the 12% cash back deal from Ebates.com on Cyber Monday, I also looked to rebook this hotel. The non-refundable rates were significantly less that the AAA rates on the room type we needed and I could get the same 12% back on to of that. In the end the nightly rate was $180/night for 2 nights and with the Ebates.com cash back the effective rate was about $20 less than that.

The rate was non-refundable, which I try to avoid, but the rate was significantly less than the AAA rate and we knew we were going to stay in the area during those days.

Hotels around the cruise were now set!
