February 2019: Dubai Planning – Activities

There is a LOT to do in Dubai. You see and hear about the malls and shopping, but there is quite a bit else to see and do and we only had 4 full days due to travel on our first day when we arrived in the evening.

Burj Kalifa

The Burj Kalifa is the tallest building in the world and of course the boys were captivated by that fact. We found tickets from “At the Top” which is the company that operates the observation deck. There were two options for tickets. The more affordable one was to go to floor 124. The more expensive one went to floor 148 and was a more VIP experience for about twice the price. We opted for the more affordable option.

We reserved our tickets online for the next to last full day we would be in the city for 5:00pm in hopes we could see a sunset from the tower. Tickets are priced differently on different days and times. They day we picked was generally less expensive than other days, thought he time was more expensive than earlier in the day by a few dollars.

Walking tour of Old Dubai

My wife found tour recommendations online and booked us a tour of the old city on TripAdvisor. The tour would take us through the gold, spice and textile souks (shops), bring us on a water taxi across Dubai Creek (more of a river), and included lunch. The tour group would be small a group of 6-10 people and would be in English. This was for the morning on our last full day in Dubai.

Beaches

We’d also be going to some of the public beaches including JBR Beach which is in part of a combination beach and high end shopping area. Kite beach is also another popular beach that is within easy reach of our hotel.

During our stay in the desert, the resort offers a complimentary shuttle to a sister property located on a beach so we planed to have a beach day during our desert stay as well.

Other Activities

A desert safari is on many people’s “must do” list, though we’re planning to play that one by ear when we get there rather than booking it before we go. We were not sure how that would fit into our schedules there.

So much to do! So little time!
