April 2019: Los Cabos Diary – Day 4

We all woke up around the same time at 7:30 and headed down for breakfast. By this time in a trip we’re usually known by the staff and have our breakfast routine set and this trip is no different.

Morning Workout

Since we didn’t have time to do a workout the previous day, Tomatico and I headed to the gym to get one in to start the day. When we arrived this time they made me sign a waiver for him in order to use the gym. Apparently the previous people had forgotten to do that, but they didn’t ask his age or have any problem with him joining me.

Unlike the last time we went, the gym was much more crowded. The yoga room was full of people doing classes from their iPhone, just like we were planning to do. The WiFi wasn’t great and the video we tried didn’t play all the way through so we decided to instead use the bikes. We found two free ones and managed a solid workout on those.

Kids Pool

After the gym we retreated to our room for a quick shower and changed into our bathing suits to join my wife and our youngest up at the kids pool. They were nearly the only ones there. My friend and his kids were in one of the pools closer to the beach but made it up to join us at the kids pool around 11am.

The boys and girls played together for a bit before we decided it was getting time to start thinking about lunch. The plan was to go to San Jose Del Cabo. We had asked the concierge the previous night about what there was to do there and it sounded interesting.

The Los Cabos area consists of two cities, Cabo San Lucas and San Jose Del Cabo. Our hotel is between the two, though closer to Cabo San Lucas. The marina we had taken the water taxi from was in Cabo San Lucas and we wanted to visit the other city before leaving. We’d plan to get lunch in San Jose Del Cabo.

Afternoon in San Jose Del Cabo

After changing we started our 25 minute drive. I had found a parking lot we both put in our GPS as the destination. We got separated on the drive there because our rental car didn’t feel terribly safe in tight traffic, or really in any situation, so it took us a little longer to get there. We did find free street parking so we didn’t need to use the parking lot after all.

We found our friends and strolled down the Main Street with shops and restaurants to try to find a place to eat. We ended up going to a place that had good reviews on Google, but had mixed reviews from our group. What was good was really good, but what was bad was really bad. Oh well.

After that, we browsed the shops for awhile. Tomatico got a World Cup jersey for the Mexican national team that he really wanted. We also stopped to get some ice cream to make up for the lunch.

It was hot in the sun and the kids were getting antsy so we decided to head back to the hotel, but there was quite a bit to check out in that part of town if we had more time. There are a lot of art galleries and other shops and we found it much more interesting and laid back than the marina in Cabo San Lucas, though more oriented to adults than kids.

Relaxed Evening

Back at the hotel I relaxed with my youngest while my wife and Tomatico went to the kids club. He really wanted to go there so he could play video games, which they only did from 4-5 in the afternoon. We don’t have video games at home so it’s a real treat for him.

We decided to do dinner on our own instead of with our friends. They did the special themed dinner that was being held in the courtyard with several different types of grilled meats and various desserts including ice cream and s’mores. Many of the evening meals were cooked on grills like in the above picture.

We decided to go to The Sports Bard restaurant just below the courtyard. They had normal sports bar food on the menu and several live sporting events playing on the TVs. There was also a pool table that the kids used while we waited for our food. There were only a couple other groups in the restaurant so there was a very relaxed vibe.

We ate a leisurely dinner and by the time we were done our friends were just coming by to see if we were still at the restaurant. Apparently there had just been whale sightings along the beach. We missed out as they were gone by the time we looked. Apparently it was pretty impressive and not all that uncommon.

Since we were done eating we migrated to the lounge/business center just off the lobby to chat for a few minutes. Our last night ended shortly after that and it was an early to bed after another busy day.

Our flight the next day was in the afternoon so we’d have a relaxed morning to pack and do something in the morning before checkout. It would be a long day of travel, though, and we wanted to make sure we got a full night of sleep.
