It’s been a LONG time since my last post. While we have done some traveling, we haven’t done as much as we normally would due to COVID. I’ve been documenting the trips we’ve been on, I’ve just been lazy about getting them ready to post.
Over the summer we also made a big change in our lives by moving from the Boston area to Connecticut to be closer to family. That put a damper in our big summer plans for a California road trip while the boys were in summer camp. We had to buy a house and move which, unsurprisingly, took most of our attention. Now that we’re settled I’ve been able to start focusing on my backlog.
While my posts are far from perfect editorial-wise, it still takes at least an hour and often more for each post. It’s almost like real work! I do enjoy writing, even if it’s only for myself to document our family travel adventures.
I have over 75 posts in draft form that I need to edit, proofread, and attempt to make coherent before I post them. These are for four (!!!!) trips to Florida we made during COVID. We didn’t specifically try to go to Florida all those times, but we had limited options when trying to avoid layovers and focus on nonstop flights to places in the US that were warm and beach destinations.
Traveling during COVID also presented other challenges related to booking flights and hotels, but also present some great opportunities related to points and miles. Hotels were offering some fantastic deals at various times for earning or spending points. Airlines change and cancellation fees for paid and award tickets that we were able to take advantage of several times. Flexibility was the key with COVID and we navigated it quite well and made the best of some less than ideal situations.
Read along over the next few days, weeks, and months to see how we explored Florida, from Miami, to Fort Lauderdale, to Orlando (and Disney), and Tamp during the pandemic. We stayed safe and healthy and enjoyed some sun and sand along the way, so as “tired” of Florida as I may sound, we still had a ton of fun.
Also, I’ve got a post on Tomatico’s top 10 free breakfasts. The kid knows a good free breakfast when he sees one!
