It was eaiser to wake up but not much. The sun was still coming up late and it’s always harder to get up when it’s still dark, but we managed to get down to the restaurant in time to finish breakfast before school started.
Enjoying my “Day Off”
I was taking the day off from work since I had a few use-them-or-lose-them days I needed to take before the end of the year. With COVID taking away most of our summer vacation plans I had a lot of days I hadn’t used.
Once the boys were set up with their Zoom calls I went out for a run. I stopped by the front desk to see if they had any recommended routes. The person I talked to must have been a runner because she had several options and distances ready.
I ended up doing a 5k route to the end of the main road and back. It was nice and flat and there were smooth sidewalks the entire way. Perfect! There also were very few other people which meant I could keep my maks off most of the time.
Back in the room I tied up some loose ends at work before it was time for lunch. Tomatico’s lucn time is first and he wanted to get a sandwich from Cool Beans. He ended up getting a breakfast sandwich for lunch, but said it was good. We put it on the room rather than using a voucher since putting it on the room would count against our $50 food and beverage credit. I then went down to Corkscrews to get food for our youngest and myself to bring back to the room to be ready when his lunch time started.
The bartender who took my order was chatty (I know, shocking!) and had some good stories about famous baseball players who had stayed at the resort. Fort Myers is where the Red Sox have spring training and many of the families stay there when they are in the area. I’m sure the water park plays a big part in that!
Fun with Phones
After lunch I decided to venture out to get some things sorted out with my phone plan. My work had changed the benefits plan so they were no longer paying for my personal plan so I needed to switch it to a different plan. I ended up wanting to switch it to my wife’s plan on Cricket since it was the cheapest option that had the features I needed.
There was a Cricket store only a few miles away and I found it easily. There wasn’t anyone in the store and the agent was super helpful. Unfortunately she ran into some issues the first time and had to back out the change. Then she ran into an issue backing it out and had to call a different support line.
We tried again and got further before realizing I needed to get a security code from my current provider. After 45 minutes on hold with AT&T I realized I already knew the code but by that time the second attempt had times out and was stuck.
After a few more calls to her support lines, the agent had backed out the second transaction. We finally succeeded on the third try once we had all the correct information. It took a total of three hours, but the agent was doing her best. It wasn’t her fault at all and I applaud her for her patience and perseverence. Luckily I didn’t have anything else to do.
Dinner
Back at the hotel the boys were already down by the pool with my wife who was finishing up her work. Once the slides closed at 5:00 the boys remembered they were hungry.
Tomatico wanted Mexican so we dropped he and my wife off at a local restaurant and went out to find our own dinner before circling back to pick them up again. They enjoyed it but it wasn’t as good as the Mexican they got in DoorDash when we had stayed in March.
Back at the hotel we got what was becoming our traditional ice cream dessert from Cool Beans. As regulars the lady knew our order as soon as we got in. Those coupons were coming in very handy!
Back in the room we relaxed and looked forward to a day off the next day. We were hoping to go to the beach!
