We awoke to our last full day in Fort Myers. Breakfast went efficiently as always and I got the boys set up on their Zoom calls with no problems.
Morning Prep
After another morning run, I felt particularly energized. I had run the 5K route at a pace I haven’t reached in several years. It felt great. After showering I gathering all the dirty clothes I could find and headed to the drop them off at the cleaning service I had found the previous day.
The clerk was helful and confirmed what I had been told the previous day. I filled out the paperwork and contact information and left our laundry. I also filled the car with gas as we’d be driving to Orlando the next day and wanted to get all the chores out of the way so we could leave directly from the hotel with minimal interruptions on the way.
Back at the room we did our lunch routine, ordering food by the pool and eating in the room between classes. We had gotten into a comfortable pattern by this point.
Our Last Night
After school we all went down to the pool. I joined the boys to ride the slides and lazy river. It was an exceptionally nice day. It still wasn’t very crowded though we had to wait for a few groups when we went on the slides. It wasn’t enough to dampen the experience.
We raced on the twin slides and I came out on top against both boys every time. They thought it was because I knew some secret way of going faster, but unfortunately I think it was just gravity and weighing more. We also went around the lazy river a few times.
We had a great time waiting at the bottom of the racing slides to see who could make the biggest splash. Another guest was particularly good at making large splashes on purpose. We drew a crowd of other kids who rated each run for him. He was a great sport about it!
As dinner time rolled around we decided to get pizza again. The front desk and recommended a place a few days prior but it wasn’t open at the time. It was open this time so we wanted to give it a shot.
The pizza ended being excellent. I split a large with my youngest and his half disappeared in no time. Too we hadn’t discovered it earlier! That said, I can’t find the restaurant online now so it may have been a victim of COVID.
After dinner, we still had some smores left from the night before so we made our way down to the firepit for some more sugary goodness. We had almost mastered the art of browning the marshmellow without it catching on fire. I gone one last ice cream from Cool Beans as well.
Back in the room we started to pack up, though we wouldn’t be leaving until after class ended the next day. We still had a pesky last day of school and wouldn’t be able to leave until around 1:00.
