Miami 2022: Activities and Transportation

We were just in Miami a year ago so we are relatively familiar with how to get around and what there is to do, though we’ll be flying out of an unfamiliar home airport.

Getting to the Home Airport

We have never flown into or out of the Westchester County Airport. It’s a small airport with only 6 gates. Since it’s so close we were wondering whether it made more sense to park there or take a Lyft. Since even long-term parking is $16 a day, it makes the most sense to take a Lyft. It’s only a few miles from the house and we’ll be gone for 8 days. We will be traveling mid-day so there should be plenty of drivers available, unlike frantically hoping to find one at 4am as we’ve had to do in the past, even after scheduling rides.

Miami Transportation

We fly into Fort Lauderdale, which we’ve done twice before. We may end up getting the same Lyft driver for the third time! We won’t be renting a car as it’s too difficult/expensive to park and everything will be close to get to via Lyft or just walking.

Activities

We’ll definitely be spending time at the hotel pools and walking around the towns to take in the shopping and dining areas. In South Beach we’ll definitely spend time at the beach. We might plan an evening trip to Bal Harbor so we can go to our favorite restaurant there, Flanigan’s Seafood. My youngest and I went there every day when we stayed at the St. Regis Bal Harbour last year. It was one of the few bright spots of that stay.

In Miami, I took the boys on a speedboat ride and they loved that. The same company also does a similar jet boat ride which we might try this time. I expect we’ll spend time walking around the Brickell area near the Hyatt Regency. There are some museums nearby that we may go to. The hotel is attached to a Metromover station which is a free automated train that circles central Miami. Simply riding on it might be quite entertaining for the boys.

I’m sure we’ll go back to some of the places we enjoyed from our previous trip, like the massive pizza slices from Pizza Bar or the Venezuelan food Tomatico and my wife loved.

After a few months of cold at home, we’re mostly looking forward to some warm weather, which will be entertainment in itself!
